Our Veterinarians

Raymond Maizel

DVM

Dr. Maizel joined Candlewood AH in March of 1989. He partnered with Dr. James Howell who started the practice in 1979. Their partnership lasted until Dr. Howell’s retirement in 2004. Since then he has had the privilege of having many associate veterinarians join the practice.

During his many years of practice, he has developed some special interests in behavioral counseling, PennHIP radiographic technique, and reproductive procedures. He cherishes his many long-term relationships he has developed with his clients, young and older, some of whom used to come to the office with their parents as children.

Dr. Maizel and his wife, Karen, are the proud parents of three grown children, Zachary, Liza, and Charlie. They are also very happy to be “grandparents” to the dogs, Abby, Brie, and cat, Pia. At home, they are down to only 2 cats, Mickey and Ezzie, after having owned 16 cats over the years, and a wonderful dog named Mandy.

When not at the office, Dr. Maizel enjoys traveling, eating good food at the many local eateries and watching Football (or as known in the US, Soccer) His favorite team is his, “Boys in Blue”, the NYCFC. He and Karen enjoy exploring the many wonders of nature both locally and around the world.

Katelyn Bakewell

DVM

Dr Bakewell was born and raised in New Milford CT. She went to the
University of Massachusetts for a degree in animal science before going to
The Ohio State University for Veterinary Medicine. She worked for 8 years
in Newtown, where he honed her skills in reproductive and rehabilitative
medicine. Her bubbly personality, and sense of humor, makes each visit
with her clients and patients, a most enjoyable experience.
She currently lives in New Milford CT with her husband Dave and her two
dogs and cats.
In her free time, she enjoys reading and baking and going for hikes with her
two dogs.
